BSR Projects structures a transaction involving land and a managed Red Sandalwood plantation. Protected Species Regulation
Red Sandalwood (Pterocarpus santalinus) is a protected species under Indian law. Harvest, transport, trade and export of red sandalwood timber and its products are regulated under the Indian Forest Act, the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, CITES and applicable state laws. Any owner of a red sandalwood plantation must operate within these regulatory frameworks. BSR Projects provides information about the species for education purposes only and does not represent that any plantation owner will be exempt from these regulations.
